About Strubswoodcrib

The Strub's Woodcrib Story

My name is Pete Strub, owner and sole proprietor of Strub's Woodcrib Ltd.

I started out with humble beginnings, growing up on a farm. I knew what is was like working long hours, getting your hands dirty and getting by with minimal amenities, yet I never considered myself poor. As a youngster, I was always interested in some type of construction and working with my hands. My grandfather was a carpenter, so it wasn't uncommon to find wood scraps laying around, which gave me the idea to start making things, getting his advice and a lot trial and error. When a task was given to me, I persisted to get it done right. My parents expected their children to go onto college as small farming was not the future. During my time in college, I worked part-time at a hospital and became exposed to different career paths. Even though I had a natural tendency towards 'engineering and creativity, I chose the field of anesthesia because I enjoyed helping people and it had a level of independence. During my years in anesthesia, I would frequently get requests from friends and colleagues to build wooden things for them, all of which was challenging, refreshing and satisfying. Several years before retiring from anesthesia, I started a small woodworking business called Strub's Woodcrib. It was then that I discovered exotic woods and bamboo. Supplies were limited and expensive, still there was a uniqueness not found in domestic woods. I began to market 'cash and carry items' and sold them at markets, art festivals and on my website.  My end-grained bamboo cutting boards debuted in 2009.  Improvements in sizes and legs were made over the years.  Today they are the cornerstone of my business.  In 2019 I began making colored epoxy resin charcuterie trays mixed with exotic woods, which have also been well received. During the years, I've made a number of other kitchen accessories to create diversity and price points.  One thing remains the same and that is my passion for detail, precision with beauty and function.

As the sole proprietor of Strub's Woodcrib, I handcraft and market only the highest quality kitchen items and sell at the best value. All my designs are original.
